L'idée d'innovation

L'innovation est partout. On pense tout de suite à la technologie. Mais elle est aussi omniprésente dans les discours. L'innovation est objet de la littérature scientifique et technique, bien sûr, mais elle est aussi discutée dans les sciences sociales et humaines : histoire, sociologie, management, économie. L'innovation est aussi une idée centrale de l'imaginaire collectif, une notion abondamment discutée dans les médias, et un objet de la politique économique. En résumé, l'innovation est devenue le symbole d'une société moderne, souvent une panacée pour résoudre les problèmes sociaux et économiques.

Cette omniprésence de l'innovation suggère trois questions. Premièrement, pourquoi l'innovation a-t-elle acquis une place si centrale dans notre société ou, dit autrement, d'où vient l'idée d'innovation? Deuxièmement, comment l'innovation en est-elle venue à être spontanément identifiée à l'innovation technologique? Enfin, quand et à cause de qui l'innovation en est-elle venue à signifier l'innovation commercialisée par l'entreprise?

Dans le but de répondre à ces questions, le présent projet s'intéresse à l'innovation en tant que catégorie, son apparition et son développement dans le temps.  Le projet analyse les concepts qui ont défini la nouveauté depuis le Moyen-Âge et qui ont conduit à l'idée d'innovation telle qu'on l'entend aujourd'hui. Plus spécifiquement, le projet étudie :

1. les concepts développés dans le temps pour parler d'innovation : invention, imagination, génie, créativité, etc.
2. la signification donnée à ces concepts,
3. les discours tenus au nom de l'innovation,
4. les valeurs véhiculées dans les discussions et les débats sur l'innovation,
5. les théories et les  cadres conceptuels développés pour expliquer l'innovation,
6. le contexte duquel émerge la catégorie,
7. la mesure de l'innovation.
